Light Trespass, 2021
Light Trespass, 2021- ongoing
Light trespass refers to unwanted or intrusive light that crosses property boundaries, contributing to light pollution. When I purchased a home in a mixed-use industrial neighborhood in Pittsburgh, PA, I was unaware of the impacts this pollution would have on my living space and daily life. The adverse effects of light pollution are numerous, including impacts on ecosystems, a disrupted night sky, and health issues such as anxiety, stress, and disrupted circadian rhythms—effects I have certainly experienced.
At the same time, I was captivated by the beautiful patterns that the light trespassing into my home painted on my walls. It’s fascinating how something so subtly disruptive can also create moments of beauty.
These source images are being digitally collaged and screenprinted. Now, in my new home in Berkeley, CA, I am seeking new evidence of light pollution. This project is ongoing.
